New

In cooperation with our customers, we keep enhancing our product. We’ve continued the development of the following functionalities.

Version management: upload new representations

Want to upload a new version of a product but keep the metadata? Do you have a higher-quality scan of an item? Or need to upload an updated version of a video? We got you covered with MediaHaven’s version management. Starting with this release, you can upload a new version of any object, keeping your metadata intact and your content up to date. This feature helps users to:

  • Maintain Metadata: Keep all existing metadata when uploading new versions.

  • Update Content Easily: Replace assets with higher-quality or revised files without hassle.

  • Streamlined Version Management: Manage multiple versions of your content in one place.

Version management is available for organisations with data objects. Please contact our support team if you want to know more about this feature!

Sharing objects

With this update, you now have more control over how your shared content is accessed and used. When sharing a selection, you can choose from several permission options, including whether recipients can download the shared items.

These new controls make it easier to collaborate securely: whether you’re sharing files with colleagues inside your organisation or with external partners who have limited or no access to MediaHaven.

This enhancement gives you greater flexibility, security, and confidence when sharing your content.

Preview documents on full page

You can now scroll through document previews in full-page view. Instead of being limited to just the first page, you can browse the entire document without opening it fully. This makes it easier to scan for key details, review longer documents at a glance, and decide whether you need to dive deeper into the document’s content.

Download preferences

Do you often use specific download settings, like cropping, or always download to a particular export location? Your download preferences are now saved for each browser session, so you no longer need to re-select your desired settings every time. This ensures your downloads always follow your chosen preferences, reducing errors or extra adjustments.

Started a download or export? Once it’s ready, the file will now download directly to your device. You no longer need to navigate to the download list first.

Archiving module

As media collections grow, maintaining a balance between keeping content current and preserving historical assets becomes increasingly important. That's why we've developed an archiving module that puts you in control. This new functionality allows users to archive objects within their environment, helping organisations keep their collections current while retaining outdated items for future reference.

You can customise retention periods at both the organisation and classification levels, giving you full control over how long archived content is preserved. Are you interested in this feature? Please contact our team, we are happy to show you the ins and outs.

Customizable browser tab title

You can now give your browser tab a custom name, both for the MediaHaven application as well as the public portal. Previously, it always displayed ‘MediaHaven’, but organisations can now include their own name. This helps organisations with their brand consistency and supports easier navigation between different tabs. Interested? Contact our support team, they’ll be happy to help you set it up.

Improvements

As with every release, we have made some improvements based on feedback from our end users.

Field definitions

Enum values can now include whitespaces and special characters. This enhancement allows you to define enum values that are more descriptive and natural to read.

AI

Fields with AI-enriched metadata now show an AI icon. This makes it easy to see which fields might need a quick review while editing, so you can stay on top of your content.

List views

You can now see the parent object name directly in list views. For example, if an item belongs to a collection, the collection’s title will show up in the Part of column in the ‘all drafts’ list. This makes it easier to understand the structure of your objects at a glance.

customizable views

We introduced customizable views and user preferences for lists in the 25.2 release. Users could adjust columns, sorting, and facets for general lists. From this release on, you can now apply these customizations specifically to the Recycle bin and ‘My selection’, letting you tailor these views to your workflow.

Settings & management

Organisation settings for administrators have been enhanced. Admin users can select a default classification for the organisation, which will automatically apply to all users when uploading new objects. It’s still possible to override the default classification for individual users.

On the technical side, objects uploaded via the API will now receive the organisation’s default classification when no ParentRecordID is provided.

UX/UI

  • Revamped login screen: The login screen and password reset pages have a new modern look.

  • Password resets: The password reset page will now always appear in the user’s selected language, instead of defaulting to Dutch.

  • Warning ongoing upload: Closing the browser during an ongoing upload will now display a warning to the user, helping prevent accidental data loss and ensuring smoother upload completion.

  • Automatic cover photo selection: Is the cover photo of an intellectual object deleted? The system will now automatically select a replacement cover photo. This ensures that collections and other intellectual objects always display a cover image.

Technical features and improvements

Improved performance

The index update and exchange instances now run concurrently and are fully autoscalable. This improvement makes new objects searchable significantly faster.
Additionally, the system now automatically detects high indexing loads and will start extra instances as needed to handle the queue efficiently.

Ingest

  • File format check: One of the more technical steps in the ingest process is file format validation. This check uses the international PRONOM registry standard to determine whether a file format is supported in MediaHaven. MediaHaven uses Siegfried as the default identification tool. However, when Siegfried fails to identify a PRONOM ID, we’ve now added FIDO as a secondary tool to ensure better coverage.

  • SIP Ingest: When ingesting SIPs, the sidecar file is now stored as a representation of the zip file instead of being kept directly in the process. This change reduces memory usage during ingest, making the process more efficient and stable. This feature especially benefits handling large METS SIPs bigger than 4GB.
