Introduction

Zones are introduced in version 21.4 as an extension to ingest spaces.

Goal

Ensure that users always have full access to unpublished records they are working on.

Design

  • Each zone has its own linked zone user group

  • Each user who is a member of the zone is automatically also a member of the zone group

  • Records can be uploaded as part of a zone. The user must be member of the zone OR the user must have the function ADMIN_ZONES and the zone must belong to the organisation of the user

  • Records in the CONCEPT phase are auto-assigned with read, write and export rights to the zone group

  • When deleting a zone, the zone ID is removed from all objects (after reindexation) but the zone name remains as read-only property on its items. The zone group is also removed.

Each user has always read, write and export rights to the unpublished records of the zones the user is member of

Zones vs Ingest spaces

Zones are a layer on top of ingest spaces and add the functionality described above in a transparent way.

When an ingest space is enhanced into a zone, it will keep working as a regular ingest space, but gains the added automatic assignment to the groups.
